After finishing last year's season with a 9-3-3 record the women's soccer team hopes to combine the strength of the returning 15 with the incoming freshman class. The Mules graduated standout striker Laura Williamson, who netted ten goals last season. She is currently the all-time leading scorer for Colby and made the all-conference team all of her four years at Colby. Starting goalie Liza Benson also graduated last spring with the achievement of all-conference first team selection under her belt. With the loss of ten seniors, the team now looks to veteran players to settle into leadership roles and fill the gaps of their '07 class. Yet the future looks bright for their continually strengthening program. Captains Lauren Goethals '08, Meggie Herlihy '08, Katie McCabe '08, and Mollie Puskar '08 all return to offer expertise throughout the field.

"We have a strong group of returning girls," states McCabe, "and we are really excited about the new additions to the team." McCabe herself led the Mules in assists as she contributed seven assists last season and is now the all-time assist leader for the Mules. She was named a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-conference second team in the 2006 season. Aiding McCabe in the midfield are Goethals, Angela Martinelli '08, Laura Pomponi '08, Meagan Edwards '10, Meghan Guay '10, and Heather MacDonald '10. Each should help the Mules put points on the board. They will look for returning strikers Herlihy and Whitney Lynn '09 to lead the drives toward goal. Herlihy scored four goals during the Mules' 2006 campaign, while Lynn netted one.

The defense is complemented by the experience of senior sweeper Puskar as well as Lexi Bohonnon '10, Tara Davidson '10, and Hannah Holbrook '10. Puskar also received all-conference honors last season. Rachel Freierman '09 and Kathleen Nicholson will compete for time in the goal.
The Mules now face a tough NESCAC schedule that begins this weekend at their home opener. "These first few games are pivotal in determining our place in the NESCAC league," commented Puskar on the start of their season. Last season the women lost to Middlebury College in the first round of the NESCAC tournament to end their season, yet this year they strive to go even farther in post-season play. The girls take on Tufts University at home tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
