The women traveled down to Bowdoin College to compete in the Aloha Relays. More than a quarter of the team had personal record times, and the girls had a solid performance to help prepare them for the tough competition to come. The team finished third behind host Bowdoin and the University of Southern Maine, whom they trailed by only seven points. The Mules finished ahead of Bates College and Mount Holyoke College.
Anna King '08 came up big for the Mules winning the 1500 meter run, and was supported by fellow teammates Karen Prisby '07, Devan FitzPatrick '09, Brianna Tufts '07, Margo Derecktor '10, Jen MacDowell '09, Sharon Fuller '08 and Laura Kayeum '10 who all had personal record times in this meet. Several of the sprinters also were able to surpass their personal best including Erin Beasley '09, Anna Bruno '07 and Sarah Gordon '09. Other top performers for Colby were Lauren Oliff '07 who qualified for New England Division III championship in the discus, and Kirsten Davis '07 and Bethany Bartley '10 placed third and fourth in the heptathlon, respectively, qualifying them both for New England Division IIIs as well. Head Coach Debra Aitken commented on the teams' solid performance saying, "The Aloha Relays was a fun meet for all. The fact that we finished third was insignificant in what we accomplished at the meet."
The men also managed to come away with some impressive times this past weekend at the Maine State meet held at Bates College. The men had four individual winners as well as winning one relay to help them take third place behind winner Bates and runner-up Bowdoin but in front of Southern Maine. In the 1,500 meter run, senior Ian London took first with a time of 3:57.85 and came in a close second to teammate Dan Moss '08 in the 800 meter. Dan Vassallo '07 won the 10,000 meter run with a time of 30:52.79, Bob Glotfelty '08 won the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 10:06.06, and the 1,600 relay team came away with first place as well. Other contributors were Roy Wilson '07 who took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.28 and Camden Bucsko '08 who placed third in the discus.
Both the men and women's teams travel to Middlebury, Vermont for the NESCAC championships Saturday, April 28.
