Despite the loss to Amherst, the Mules' fortunes improved dramatically in the second game of their weekend road trip, a 4-0 victory over Connecticut College. Brown was a veritable wall in goal, deflecting 30 shots for her third career shutout. Meryl Poulin '11, Anning, Becky Julian '09, and Stephanie Scarpato '11 all scored for the Mules, with assists by Amanda Comeau '09, Elissa Kurtz '11, and Dana Yerigan '10.
Colby then kept it going in defeating its first non-conference rival on the schedule, University of Southern Maine, 3-1. Liz Osgood '11, Scarpato, and Kurtz each posted goals for the Mules, while Julian and Anning played the role of facilitators, with two assists each. The two teams dueled to a scoreless tie until the end of the second quarter, when Osgood netted her first goal of the season. Though the Huskies would come back to tie it in the third period, any thoughts of a comeback were soon silenced by goals from Scarpato and Kurtz. Brown again turned in a solid performance of 26 saves, bringing her season goals-against average to 1.67.
The Mules, at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, will finally play before their home crowd when Saint Anselm College comes to Mayflower Hill on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m.
